Water-17O (H217O) is a colorless liquid at room temperature. The density of 17O water is 1.044 g/cm3 at 20 ° C and it boils at 100 ° C.
17O water, or 17O labelled water, is prepared by reducing copper (I) oxide with hydrogen:
Cu217O + H2 → Cu + H217O
17-O water (H217O) is used in different fields of chemistry. The most known applications are the following:
- Oxygen‑17 (O‑17) Water is now being used for diagnostic applications and medical research to create a new generation of NMR Images;
- New developments with O‑17 enhance the quality of information about living tissue to improve the practice of medicine in the fields of cardiology and neurology;
- Commonly used in organic synthesis as the source of 17O isotope;
At present, CPI Georgia can produce isotopically labelled water such as 17O-water (O17-water, water O17, 17O-H2O) product with isotopic richness above 70% 18O. Other than 70% enrichment, isotopeshop.com offers different kind of Water-O17 enrichment such as 90%, 80%, 20%.
